Since no one is investing resources in learning how many victims are out there, we’re left with estimates and news accounts. As part of a 2008 study, former police officer Tim Maher, a criminologist at the University of Missouri-St. Louis, asked 20 police chiefs whether police sexual misconduct was a problem; 18 responded in the affirmative. The 13 chiefs willing to offer estimates thought an average of 19 percent of cops were involved—if correct, that translates to more than 150,000 police officers nationwide. An informal effort by the Cato Institute in 2010 to track the number of police sexual-misconduct cases just in news stories counted 618 complaints nationwide that year, 354 of which involved forcible nonconsensual sexual activity like sexual assault or sexual battery.

One woman called 911, telling the operator: “The guy was laying on the floor and eight sheriffs ran up and started beating him up with sticks. The man is dead laying right here, right now. I got it all on video camera and I’m sending it to the news. These cops have no reason to do this to this man.”

Something is seriously wrong with the California police, their training, and officer accountability. Every time I turn around there’s a cop beating the shit out of someone in California. There needs to be more done to correct these types of abuses. What we saw in the Chris Dorner situation was indicative of a much larger problem and complete lack of respect for the public trust. California has been plagued with the image of police brutality. The number of instances that I can think of off the top of my head is overwhelming, and I don’t even live in that state.

NO. This is not justice served. This is murder served.

it’s fairly clear that incarceration is just a bad idea in general, unless you’re keeping mass murderers at bay…. but it’s ESPECIALLY clear that even contemplating sending a teenage girl to jail is a bad idea. or just… charging a teenager with possession and discharge of a weapon because of a science experiment? like…
